French Is More FUN with 2
Hopefully, this performance video helps you prepare for your own performance of French Folk Song at a recital or for YouTube. I would love to hear your playing, so please post a link to your performance in the comments section below. This is my 4th video on French Folk Song so if you have not seen the previews, practice, or performance video lessons yet, then I highly recommend you give those a try!
Music is more FUN with two so please find a pianist to make music with. Accompanying in this video is my friend and master pianist Larry Gee but these piano accompaniments are so simple that you may be surprised how many pianists you know who could join you on your musical journey. One of the great joys of learning an instrument is the friends you make along the way — don’t miss out on a chance to make music with others!
Pro Tip
TEMPO MATTERS! The pianist generally plays a short introduction before the cello enters which means that the pianist sets the tempo. Don’t be afraid to speak up, especially if the tempo is too fast. This is why we rehearse! You have been working on this piece for a long time, don’t sabotage the performance because you were afraid to speak up!
If you are performing French Folk Song, you should have already learned the D major one octave scale and Schroeder Exercises 1-4. Solos are SUPER FUN but scales and exercises will give you the tools to be successful at every stage along this journey. You would be well-served to spend some time each day on scales and exercises before you dig into the solo piece of the day.
HAPPY PRACTICING!
